| 我が国で一番大きい島、そして、珊瑚礁でできた地球上で一番大きな島、クリスマス島の写真展を企画して頂きました（有）未分離殿の素晴らしい行動力に対しまして、キリバス政府ならびに、キリバスの国民にかわりまして心から御礼と感謝申し上げます。
我々は全人類の利益ともいえます、宇宙開発の発展に寄与するところの日本宇宙開発事業団殿によりますクリスマス島への重要なプロジェクトの展開を大変嬉しく思っています。 しかし、私と致しましては、原始的なクリスマス島の環礁に残る美しい自然と生物の多様性を保存する我々の手助けをして頂き、また、クリスマス島の楽園を地球温暖化と海水面の上昇の危機から守る為、巨大な工業先進国への我々の取るに足りない小さな声をサポートして頂いています全ての皆様（クリスマスカードへの協力者、カードの購入者、写真展への来場者等）に格別の感謝を申し上げます。

On Behalf of the Government and people of Kiribati, I would like to express our heartfelt thanks and appreciation for the wonderful initiative that Mibunri Inc. has taken to arrange a display or exhibition of Christmas Island, our biggest island and the biggest coral atoll the world.
We are pleased that Christmas Island has a significant contribution to make to the development of space technology for the benefit of the entire humanity but I would make a special pleased to all concerned to help us preserve the natural beauty and biodiversity of this pristine atoll and to support our humble voice to the large and industrialised nations to save our Christmas Island paradise from the threats of global warming and sea level rise.

クリスマス島が所属するライン諸島の大臣から推薦のお言葉を頂きました！1999/10/01
日本の皆様始めまして。日本の皆様にこうして御挨拶ができます事を大変嬉しく思います。キリバス共和国は中央太平洋の赤道付近、東西約３０００キロに広がる３３の島々で構成されています。そして、私が住むクリスマス島はその東端に位置し、ハワイの南約２０００キロの太平洋上に浮かんでいます。ハワイからは約３時間の旅です。 クリスマス島には真っ青な海と空に抱かれ、暖かい、素晴らしい気候のもと約３５００人の島民が平和にのんびりと暮らしています。この島には毎年、約２０００人の釣り人や、ダイバーが訪れています。ここには彼らを魅了してやまない何か特別な世界がある様です。また、クリスマス島には青い海と空と手付かずの自然と向き合う事ができる素晴らしい時間があります。豪華で、近代的な施設はあいにくございませんが、島民のホスピタリティーは世界一であると自負しており、皆様にもきっと満足していただけると思いますので、是非一度クリスマス島に来て下さい。 さて、そんな楽園のようなクリスマス島やキリバス共和国の島々にも悩みごとはあるのです。先にも述べましたように、我々の国は小さな島々でできており、その平均海抜は約１.５メートルほどしかありません。現在では少しずつ広く認識されるようになりましたが、地球温暖化による海水面上昇の影響をまともに受けています。すでに国内では何件もの被害の報告を聞いています。幸い、クリスマス島ではまだ大きな被害の報告はありませんが、それでもこのまま海水面の上昇が続けば、最悪５０年で、我々の楽園は海に沈んでしまうのです。 地球の温暖化はたいへん大きな問題で、様々な要因がからみ合っているため、解決する事は困難です。しかし、一人一人に地球を大切にする気持ちがあれば、そして、少しでも自然保護に興味を持って生活をしていただければ、状況は必ず良い方向に転じると信じています。 この未分離の「クリスマス島からのクリスマスカード」プロジェクトは、そのような意味においてたいへん有意義なものであると思います。また、このようなサービスを通じて、我々の国の状況を皆様に知っていただける事をたいへん嬉しく思っています。私もこのプロジェクトを心から応援しています。我々の大切な国、地球を守るため、皆様の御協力と御理解を私からもお願いします。私も、皆様がいつまでも幸せで平和に生活ができますように、そして、新しい世紀を無事迎える事ができますように、皆様よりホンノ少しだけ早く２０００年を迎えるクリスマス島からお祈りしています。 皆様にクリスマス島でお会いできる日を楽しみにお待ちしております。 Jim Taekiti Minister Ministry of Line and Phoenix Development But in this paradise of the islands of the Kiribati Republic and Christmas Island we have our worries. I mentioned that our country is made up of many tiny islands and the average height of these above sea-level is 1.5 meters. Awareness has been increasing gradually that we are being directly confronted by the influence of a rise in sea level because of global warming. I have been made aware of actual cases of damage suffered. Fortunately, there have been no reports of great damage sustained on Christmas Island but if the worst comes to the worst and the sea level keeps rising, in 50 years' time our paradise will be buried under the sea. Global warming is a very big problem with many different fact involved, so it is not subject to an easy solution. But we believe that, if each individual has the conviction to treat the earth properly and lives with at least some concern for preserving nature, the situation will undoubtedly take a turn for the better. In that regard, I believe that the "Merry Christmas from Christmas Island" project of MIBUNRI Inc., is very significant. And I am very grad that the people will get to know of the circumstances of our country through this service. I too am right behind this. Please will you too lend your understanding and co-operation to preserve our important country and world itself. May you all lead happy lives always. And we, who will welcome the year 2000 just a bit ahead of you, wish that you may be able to see in the new century without incident. It gives me great pleasure to greet you all, The Republic of Kiribati is situated near the equator in the mid Pacific and consists of 33 islands stretching over 3000 kms from west to east. Christmas Island on which I live, is situated at it's eastern edge just about 2000 kms south of Hawaii. However there is only one flight a week. About 3500 people live in peace and tranquility on Christmas Island surrounded by deep blue sea and skies, enjoying a beautiful warm climate. Every year about 2000 anglers and divers visit this island. There is a special other-worldliness here that seems to fascinate them. Here it is possible to have a great time alone with the blue sea and sky and untouched nature. We don't have any flash modern institutions, however. We think we offer the world's best hospitality. Please pay us a visit and I am sure you will be quite satisfied.
